"Love, Pain, Release"

Alternative and R&B singer Yuna recently released her third studio album, Chapters, in May of this year. Yuna is a Malaysian singer who debuted (in Malaysia) in 2008 (internationally in 2011) with her album, Yuna. Since then she has expanded and matured to the sound she has today. On this album, she was able to catch the essence of true R&B merged with her original alternative sound over 13 soulful tracks. Throughout the duration of the album she was able to diversify her sound while keeping the same subject matter of love and pain relevant. The music sounds that she was able to relate to on here range from Aaliyah (on "Best Love") to Sade (on "Unrequited Love"). Aside from being fascinated by her testimonial lyrics, she also was able to amaze listeners with her choice in features. There were only two features on the project (Usher & Jhene Aiko), and they both harmonized with her voice perfectly to present a soulful blend of sounds. Overall, Chapters unravels a new sound that is much needed in R&B and Alternative today. Yuna's story is told through her soft voice and provides the perfect mixture of honesty and passion. Although this is the sixth album from her, this album solidifies the fact that this is still the prime of her career and that she has much more good content to offer us. A few favorites from the album are "Time", "Best Love" and "Crush" feat. Usher.
