3 Things to Know about "Mask Off" (Remix)
Today, Future released the official remix to his heavy hitting song Mask Off. The original version of the song had a heavy impact on social media as it was the theme of the #MaskOffChallenge, where some people got really creative. After moving the culture forward on its own for months, Future decided to add Kung Fu Kenny to the song. While currently basking in the success of DAMN., Kendrick gives us a solid sixteen for the road. Here are some things that are dope to know about the background of the track:
1. Produced and Mixed by Different People
The beat was made by Metro Boomin' who was also the artist of he original beat. Although the beat was the same for the most part, there was a lot of production added to Kendrick's verse to make his flow more cohesive. However, although Metro did the production, the mixing was done by Alex Tumay who has mixed on projects like JEFFERY and Take Care. Tumay has also worked with artists like Kanye West, 21 Savage and Migos.
2. Kendrick's Verse
Kendrick Lamar made sure to keep to giving us a raw version of himself on this remix with his true thoughts and feelings towards society. In the meat of K. Dot's verse, he talks about his massive success in the rap game all while staying true to black culture and who he really is:
3. Kendrick & Future's Collab in Coachella
This year at the Coachella Music & Arts Festival in California, Kendrick Lamar acted as one of the headlining acts. During his performance he brought Future out to perform "Mask Off" as a treat for his fans. This could have been around the time when this collaboration idea was born.
